Description

Ventolin inhaler is used for the treatment for asthma and COPD to relieve symptoms like wheezing and shortness of breath.

Detailed guide on how to properly use Ventolin inhaler:

1. Prepare the Inhaler: If it’s a new inhaler or hasn’t been used in a while, you may need to prime it. Shake the inhaler well for about 5 seconds, then release one or two sprays into the air away from your face. This ensures the medication is ready to be delivered.

2. Shake Again: Before each use, shake the inhaler well for at least 5 seconds. This mixes the medication evenly.

3. Breathe Out Fully: Before putting the mouthpiece in your mouth, exhale completely to empty your lungs. This makes more room for a deeper inhalation.

4. Position the Inhaler: Place the mouthpiece between your lips and close your lips around it. Try to keep your tongue flat under the mouthpiece so it doesn’t block the spray.

5. Inhale and Spray: Start to breathe in slowly through your mouth, and then press down on the top of the inhaler to release a dose of salbutamol while continuing to breathe in steadily and deeply.

6. Hold Your Breath: After inhaling the medication, remove the inhaler from your mouth. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, or as long as it is comfortable for you. This allows the medication to settle into your airways.

7. Repeat if Necessary: If your doctor has prescribed more than one puff per dose, wait about 30 seconds to 1 minute before repeating the steps.

8. Rinse Your Mouth: After you’ve completed your doses, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out. This helps to prevent irritation and reduce the risk of developing oral thrush, a common side effect of inhaled steroids.

9. Check Inhaler Usage: Keep track of the number of doses you have used. Ventolin inhalers typically contain 200 puffs. Remember to get your prescription refilled before it runs out.

10. Clean Your Inhaler: Regular cleaning of your inhaler is important to ensure it works properly. Remove the metal canister from the L-shaped plastic case and rinse the case under warm water once a week. Let it air-dry thoroughly before reassembling the inhaler.
