KOMBIGLYZE XR 5mg/1000mg Overview and Uses
KOMBIGLYZE XR is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to enhance blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when both saxagliptin and metformin are appropriate treatments.
Limitations of Use:
- Not indicated for type 1 diabetes mellitus.
- Not suitable for treating diabetic ketoacidosis.
Dosage and Administration:
- Individualized Dosage: Adjust based on the patient’s current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerance.
- Administration: Typically taken once daily with the evening meal.
- Starting Dose: For patients needing 5 mg of saxagliptin and not currently on metformin, start with 5 mg saxagliptin/500 mg metformin extended-release once daily. Gradually increase the dose to minimize gastrointestinal side effects from metformin.
- For Patients Already on Metformin: Match the metformin dose currently being taken or the closest appropriate dose.
- Maximum Daily Dosage: 5 mg saxagliptin and 2000 mg metformin extended-release.
- Administration Note: Swallow tablets whole; do not crush, cut, or chew.
