FIRMAGON (DEGARELIX) 80MG POWDER FOR INJECTION is used to treat advanced hormone-dependent prostate cancer in adult men. It works by quickly lowering testosterone levels, which helps to slow or stop the growth of prostate cancer cells.
Active Ingredient and Strength
Each vial contains 80 mg of degarelix (as acetate) in powder form. Before use, the powder is mixed with 4.2 mL of sterile water for injection to create a solution for subcutaneous injection.
How FIRMAGON (DEGARELIX) 80MG POWDER FOR INJECTION Works
Degarelix blocks the GnRH receptors in the brain’s pituitary gland. This reduces the production of two hormones—LH and FSH—which in turn causes a rapid drop in testosterone levels. Unlike some treatments, it doesn’t cause a temporary rise in testosterone, making it safer for cancer control.
Dosage and Administration
Starting Dose: 240 mg, given as two 120 mg injections under the skin.
Maintenance Dose: 80 mg, given as one injection every 28 days.
Doctors inject FIRMAGON into the abdominal area. They rotate the site with each dose to reduce skin irritation.
Who Should Use It
FIRMAGON is recommended for adult men with:
Advanced hormone-dependent prostate cancer
High-risk localized or locally advanced prostate cancer (along with radiotherapy)
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects may include:

Storage Information
Store vials in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C (36°F to 46°F), away from light. Do not freeze. After mixing, use the solution immediately.
