Description
Each tablet contains 4 mg of Glimepiride, which can be divided into equal halves.
Posology:
The dose is determined based on blood and urinary glucose determinations. The initial dose is 1 mg of Glimepiride per day, with maintenance therapy at this dose if good control is achieved. If control is unsatisfactory, dosage may be increased stepwise every 1 to 2 weeks to 2, 3, or 4 mg of Glimepiride per day.
Therapeutic Indications:
Glimepiride is prescribed for type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are insufficient.
**Method of Administration:
Tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid.
Pregnancy:
Blood glucose levels must be closely monitored during pregnancy to avoid teratogenic risk. Insulin therapy is required if abnormal glucose levels occur. Glimepiride is contraindicated throughout pregnancy due to its potential teratogenic effects.
Breastfeeding:
As Glimepiride is excreted in rat milk and there’s a risk of hypoglycemia in nursing infants, breastfeeding while taking Glimepiride is not recommended.
Fertility:
No data on Glimepiride’s effects on fertility are available.
Driving or Operating Machinery:
Patients should take precautions to avoid hypoglycemia while driving or operating machinery, especially if they have reduced awareness of hypoglycemia symptoms. Driving or operating machinery may not be advisable in these circumstances.
