Description
Alvesco effectively controls persistent asthma in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older. The recommended daily dose is 160 micrograms, which provides asthma control for most patients. For those with severe asthma, or when reducing or discontinuing oral corticosteroids, a higher dose of up to 640 micrograms per day (320 micrograms twice daily) may be necessary.
Inhaler Usage Instructions:
If the inhaler is new or hasn’t been used for a week or more, release three puffs into the air before use. Since Alvesco is a solution aerosol, there’s no need to shake the inhaler.
For proper inhalation, patients should sit or stand and hold the inhaler upright, placing their thumb on the base below the mouthpiece. After removing the mouthpiece cover, the patient should place the inhaler into their mouth, close their lips around the mouthpiece, and breathe in slowly and deeply. As they inhale through the mouth, they should press down on the top of the inhaler. After removing the inhaler from their mouth, patients should hold their breath for about 10 seconds, or as long as is comfortable, then breathe out slowly. They should avoid exhaling into the inhaler and replace the mouthpiece cover after use.
Maintenance:
Clean the mouthpiece weekly with a dry tissue or cloth. Do not wash the inhaler or expose it to water.
