Description
ALPHAGAN is a medication used to reduce intraocular pressure, containing brimonidine tartrate, an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist.
Active ingredient: Brimonidine Tartrate
Indications and Usage:
ALPHAGAN is indicated for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It can be used alone or in combination with other eye drops.
Precautions:
– Do not use ALPHAGAN if allergic to brimonidine tartrate or any other ingredients, taking certain antidepressants, breastfeeding, or for infants and babies.
– Use caution if you have a history of depression, reduced mental capacity, cardiovascular issues, or kidney/liver problems.
– Not recommended for children aged 2 to 12 years and usually not for adolescents aged 12 to 17.
– Inform your doctor about all medications you’re taking, especially antidepressants, painkillers, and heart medications.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
– Consult your doctor before using ALPHAGAN if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
– ALPHAGAN should not be used while breastfeeding.
Driving and Machinery Use:
– ALPHAGAN may cause blurred or abnormal vision and drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing these symptoms.
Instructions for Use:
– Apply one drop twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart, as directed by your doctor.
– Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid, apply the drop, and press on the corner of the closed eye.
– Avoid touching the eye with the dropper tip and replace the cap tightly after use.
Possible Side Effects:
– Common eye side effects include eye irritation, burning, stinging, itching, blurred vision, and allergic reactions.
– If side effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor immediately.
Overdose and Missed Dose:
– Accidental ingestion or overdose may cause serious side effects. Contact your doctor/pharmacist immediately if this occurs.
– If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as remembered. If it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule.
